WMUC 2020 will be hosted at the Runaway Bay sports-field complex on the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Parts of this complex were used by teams and athletes preparing for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
This superb venue is perfectly suited to hosting large sports events and currently services the field requirements for Cricket, Rugby League and Union, Hockey, Soccer and Touch Football. The hosts aim to create a tournament precinct that will look after players, guests, staff and spectators from the moment they arrive on site until the moment they leave.
The Upper fields will contain 8 grass Ultimate pitches. The Lower fields will contain 6 grass Ultimate pitches including the Showcase field. The Upper fields are all high-quality natural grass surfaces, kept in excellent condition by year-round irrigation. Field renovation and upgrade works are planned for the lower grass fields which are expected to be in equally good condition by 2020.
The Showcase field will be incorporated into the Tournament Village precinct which will become the social and cultural hub of the event and is centrally located within the tournament site. This field will seat over 1000 spectators and contain a big screen for instant replays. The Village will contain merchandise stalls, a catering facility, food trucks, licensed bar, stage and big screen for live music and DJs.
The Village will also contain a player’s recreational area, as well as toilet and shower facilities, and players are encouraged to bring a change of clothes to the fields each day so that they can play, shower & change and then stay on to eat dinner and enjoy a few cold beverages while they watch the showcase game.
The sports precinct is directly adjacent to the BLK Performance Centre which will provide all the event staff accommodation, as well as some team accommodation. The BLK Performance centre also contains a 50m pool as well as gymnasium and aquatic recovery centre. The BLK Performance Centre is a world class sports facility which is used by elite athletes and teams both in training and competition.
